Stop Biting Your Nails

Something I have struggled with my entire life. Driven by a racetrack mind that rivals the Daytona 500. In the last year alone stress and anxiety consumed my thought life. Bombarding my brain with questions like “What’s going to happen with my job? How am I going to provide for a family of four on my income alone? How can I care for a new baby at my age?” I recognize my issues are real and can’t simply be dismissed. But did they have a right to exalt themselves above the promises of God? Did they have any business taking first place and priority in my mind? Absolutely not.

Slowly over time the snares of worry and anxiety enslaved me. I walked around dazed, checked-out, and deflated. My family and relationships unfairly suffered the wrath of my attitude and quick temper. Even worse, my passion and intimacy with Jesus turned ice cold. Instead of declaring truth and speaking the Word of God over my life I allowed the cares of this world (Mark 4:19) to rob me.

Thankfully, Jesus waited patiently (as usual) for me to bring ALL of it to the cross. Holy Spirit said “Enough is enough. It’s time to cast your burdens on Him (1 Peter 5:7). He is faithful to forgive and pour out His peace over you in exchange for the weight on your shoulders.”

That’s exactly what I did. Tension in my chest released and I inhaled a giant breath of fresh air. Balance and joy was restored. Through that experience I was reminded to cast my worries and burdens on Him DAILY. Not weekly, monthly or yearly.

If worry, anxiety and stress have enslaved you too let me encourage you to bring it ALL to the cross. Jesus will do for you the same He did for me. Look to the hope promised in scriptures like Matthew 6:25-34 and Philippians 3:20. We are victorious in Jesus name!
